The Indian Ocean is the third-largest ocean in the world, covering about 70.5 million km² (27.2 million sq mi). It stretches from the southern coast of Asia to the coasts of Africa and Australia, connecting the Red Sea and Arabian Sea in the north to the Southern Ocean near Antarctica.
