Réunion Island, France (2022)

Réunion Island is a lush, volcanic island located in the Indian Ocean, about 700 km (430 mi) east of Madagascar and 175 km (110 mi) southwest of Mauritius. It is an overseas department of France, meaning it’s fully part of the European Union — you’ll find French language, the euro, and European infrastructure, surrounded by tropical landscapes. Réunion Island uniquely blends European comfort with wild tropical adventure — a place where you can trek volcanoes in the morning, swim in coral lagoons by afternoon, and enjoy French wine at dinner.

It’s often described as “a little piece of Europe lost in the Indian Ocean.”

Hang-gliding in Reunion!
